Pedal the waterways

Go where the water goes, along the Rhine and the canals. Thanks to the "2 banks, 3 bridges" network of cycle tracks, you can pedal from one bank to the other, "leap-frogging" to and fro across the French, German and Swiss borders.

If the Three Countries Region is at the crossroads of land, rail and air routes, it is also at the crossroads of waterways, which are as many corners of nature for all kinds of outdoor activities.

  • DESCRIPTION

Huningue is located on the Rhine at the corner of the Three Borders: Swiss, German and French. The name Huningue appears for the first time in a document dated 828. In 1679, Louis XIV had Vauban build a fortress here as a crossing point on the Rhine, which Basel, a neighbouring Swiss city, would always consider a threat. The fortress will play its role as a lock for 136 years. After 1815, it was dismantled at Switzerland's request.
